What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Contact forms

We use a plugin called Ninja Forms to create the forms on our website. Ninja Forms support GDPR compliance. We request your permission to hold and process your data for the reasons at the end of each form as you submit the form. The forms do a couple of things:

  • create a private section on our WordPress site where we can log in and see the form contents
  • they also generate an email that is sent to our administrator with the form contents in the body of that email so that the administrator can respond to the form appropriately

You can request to view any of the data we hold on you in this way, and you can request that we delete it. Please contact us if you with to look at the data we hold or have it deleted.

Our cookie policy can be viewed on our separate Cookie Policy Page. We generate this by running a scan on our site using the Complianz plugin, which creates a pop up the first time you visit our site that allows you to decide which kinds of cookies to allow (or not).

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

In practice, our site is quite simple and doesn’t include content drawn in and displayed from elsewhere.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

In practice we do not allow site visitors to register on our site or leave comments.

What rights you have over your data

The data we hold on site visitors is primarily that generated via cookies and our contact forms. Please see the sections above this which deal with each of those issues.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Submissions via our contact form are stored in our WordPress database and also emailed to our administrator, as per our ‘Contact Form’ section above.
